The route from Soelden up to the Rettenbach Glacier extends over 13 km. The distance may not be far, but the route encompasses a 1,300 m height difference! There are no flat sections on this route which has an average gradient of 11%!
The Oetztal Gletscherstrasse is the highest road in the Eastern Alps. It runs from the resort of Soelden up to the Rettenbach Glacier and through the 'Rosi Mittermeier' tunnel, the highest road tunnel in Europe, to the Tiefenbachferner. Here, the road ends at an altitude of 2,820 m.

Hiking to the Rettenbach Glacier
The long-distance hiking trail E5 from Oberstdorf to Verona runs right past the Rettenbach Glacier. If you fancy tackling this challenging route over the Alps, you can enjoy a coffee or tasty snack here at the foot of the glacier.
The Oetztal Cycling Marathon
Once a year the Oetztal Cycle Marathon takes place in the oetztal valley. The "Ötztaler Cycle Marathon" is for so many cyclers a very important event, the cycling-race starts and finishs at Sölden.
Basic data: 238 km route with 5,500 of vertical meters and up to 18 percentage gradient.
